Governance, Risk, and Assurance (GRA) is a Corporate Services business unit that delivers strong governance advisory and support services, promotes a governance culture, and optimises performance in the Department of Customer Service.
GRA has an opportunity for a proactive Sustainability Reporting Manager to join the team at the Department of Customer Service. We are seeking people with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who are committed to world-class customer service.
You will be supporting the growing sustainability reporting program of work for the Department of Customer Service. You will develop and define our approach, work with teams and entities across the Department to operationalise our approach, and assist with interpreting incoming policy / legislative changes in the climate change space. A key focus of this role will be working closely with colleagues in other Departments and contributing to Department-wide and sector-wide forums.
This role reports to the Chief Risk Officer.
Key responsibilities include:
* Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across the Department and Whole of Government.
* Work closely with other central and/or local teams to provide guidance and support to business stakeholders in relation to sustainability reporting and incoming requirements.
* Understand the emerging and growing requirements within the Sustainability space (including climate change and emerging environmental and social requirements) and help portfolio entities understand what is required.
* Support agencies within the Department that need to comply with requirements.
* Oversee and manage sustainability-related reporting for the Department including but not limited to climate-related financial disclosures, government policy and reporting, and Net Zero requirements.
* Create and manage the disclosure process for the DCS entity, ensuring relevant teams and resources are aware of their obligations and providing oversight of the successful completion of activities.
* Prepare the DCS entity disclosure and support portfolio entities with their disclosures.
* Advocate for best practice sustainability management.
* Coordinate and support a Department-wide approach to sustainability reporting and key activities, including providing expertise input into existing policy or framework reviews, writing reports and briefs for key governance forums and committees, providing support for agencies and interpreting emerging policy/legislative requirements.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
* Exceptional customer service skills and ability to partner and negotiate with key and often multiple stakeholders simultaneously, to achieve a common objective.
* Experience in sustainability reporting management or similar (experience in the NSW public sector is preferable but not essential).
* Experience in managing others or a team including providing guidance or direction on complex or unclear objectives and identifying opportunities to leverage the strengths of others to solve issues.
* Strong understanding of the sustainability reporting landscape within Australia and ideally the public sector.
* An effective communication style which influences, creates opportunities for others to be heard, and can clearly articulate complex concepts to various stakeholders.
* Strong problem-solving skills including taking into account the broader context when identifying effective solutions and designing innovative solutions to meet portfolio needs.
* Proven ability to stay calm under pressure in challenging situations and unpredictable environments, be able to pivot quickly and respond effectively to multiple tasks and emerging issues in a timely manner.
