Description The Pacific Area Welfare and Self-Reliance department is seeking to appoint a Welfare and Self Reliance Manager for Melbourne. This permanent full-time position will report to the Welfare and Self-Reliance Regional Manager. The purpose of the role is to support Church leaders in their ‘divinely appointed responsibility’ to minister to those in need both within the Church and in the community. It is an exceptional opportunity to do good within the Church and local community. The successful candidate will also work closely with the Pacific Area team. Responsibilities Church Leaders: Train and support key church leaders in relation to welfare and self-reliance needs and solutions, help deliver resources and programs e.g. self-reliance groups, education, family services, humanitarian aid and emergency response Resource Development: Work with government organisations, NGOs, educational institutions and communities to develop and deliver resources for the benefit of church members and communities Educational Programs: Develop and manage educational initiatives and relationships including PathwayConnect, EnglishConnect, BYU-Hawaii, educational funding programs (e.g. PEF, Returned Missionary Scholarship). Developing MOUs with education providers and promoting education success. Humanitarian Services: Supporting community resources and identifying humanitarian initiatives based around local needs and circumstances. Helping units develop Emergency Response Plans, Encourage temporal preparedness Family Services: Work with Family Services to deliver behavioural health and wellness services to church leaders and church membership Careers Initiative : Work with Young Adults, especially RM’s to support them obtaining Education with Purpose and Jobs with meaning. To be a support to church leaders and church membership. It will necessitate interacting with government departments, education facilities, and employment opportunities Support Team: Develop and manage a Support Team of full-time and church service missionaries and volunteers Qualifications Has a bachelor’s degree or higher is preferred and/or the equivalent combination of education and related work experience Has 5-10 years of professional experience including demonstrated success working in middle to senior-level leadership/management positions Has demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, train and motivate people and groups (e.g. stake self-reliance committees and ward councils) and to develop people through coaching and mentoring relationships. The ability to develop/build relationships and networks with church and community leaders, government departments, NGOs and educational institutions A strong understanding of the church organization, doctrines and principles, and church leadership experience Strong computer, analytical and creative skills, and strong public speaking experience. Essential and timely reporting to leaders and department. Demonstrates flexibility and readiness for interstate travel, with the ability to efficiently operate from a mobile office Maintain temple worthiness standard Note : Only those with current legal authorisation to work in Australia should apply for this position.
