The key objectives of the position are:
4. To contribute to the provision of high quality library services that meet the educational, recreational and information needs of the diverse Hume community by providing a high level of customer service and supporting the professional presentation of library facilities;
5. To support the facilitation of learning for the Hume community;
6. To work within library policies and procedures;
7. To support the planning, implementation and facilitation of STEAM activities for the Hume community.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
8. Undertake regular direct customer service duties, including regular evening and weekend shifts.
9. Issue and return all formats promptly and efficiently.
10. Register new library members and issue replacement cards.
11. Collect payment for damaged materials, printing and photocopy services, etc.
12. Answer phone calls promptly and provide appropriate services eg. phone renewals.
13. Educate and support customers in using self-service technology, other Hume libraries applications, programs bookings software and libraries website.
14. Ensure the library is kept tidy and welcoming for customers.
15. Actively promote the library resources to the community.
16. Perform reconciliation of branch cash takings in accordance with Council procedures.
17. Troubleshoot library computers and hardware as appropriate.
18. Ensure that opening and closing procedures are correctly implemented when rostered at the beginning or end of the day.
19. Accurately shelve library stock.
20. Regular shelf reading to ensure the collection is in order.
21. Tidy shelves to ensure high standard of library presentation.
22. Promote library resources and programs as part of branch outreach activities.
23. Support the delivery of programs across Hume Libraries.
24. Report on programs, activities, and outcomes.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
25. The ability to identify and resolve problems or refer more complex issues to the Shift Supervisor as appropriate.
26. Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use a variety of computer hardware and software;
27. Knowledge of cash handling and reconciliation;
28. Knowledge of Public Library systems and procedures.
29. The ability to plan and organise work so as to achieve specific and set objectives in the most efficient way within resources available and within a set timetable.
30. Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
31. High level customer service skills with an ability to deal with difficult situations and present a positive Council image;
32. Sound written and verbal communication skills;
33. Successful completion of Year 10;
34. Experience in a Public Library or similar environment;
35. Current Working with Children's check or willingness to undergo WWCC
36. Current driver's licence.
