We are seeking an experienced General Counsel for appointment on an executive contract for up to five (5) years. This role provides a unique, hands-on professional opportunity for you to work closely with the ACT Integrity Commissioner (a former Supreme Court judge) and CEO, to provide leadership and manage legal risks and services across the organisation. As required, this position undertakes the role of Counsel Assisting in the Commission’s examinations and represents the Commission in court proceedings and/or the briefing of external counsel on matters. As General Counsel, some of your responsibilities include: being accountable for the management and quality of legal work provided within the Commission and externally as it applies to Commission work providing legal advice to the Commissioner, CEO and staff of the Commission undertaking a leadership role in the conduct of the Commission’s investigations, in concert with the Commissioner, investigators, and other staff drafting reports detailing the findings and outcomes of Commission investigations identifying legal and policy issues affecting the Commission and, in consultation with the Commissioner, CEO and Senior Management Group, develop effective responses appearing as Counsel Assisting the Commissioner in private and public examinations directly supervising members of the Legal Team establishing and maintaining relationships with the ACT Director of Public Prosecutions, the ACT Government Solicitor, the Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department and Heads of legal teams of partner oversight agencies in line with the objectives and legislative requirements of the Commission. This role is located in Canberra. The successful candidate will be expected to be physically present in the office of the Commission in Canberra on a full-time basis. The position attracts a remuneration package ranging from $299,009 – $310,975 depending on the current superannuation arrangements of the successful applicant.
