Our Lithgow-based Dianella Day Program for Young People helps young people between 12 and 24 years who may be having problems with alcohol or drugs without them having to attend treatment in a residential setting.
The service is based in Lithgow and offers outreach services to the surrounding regions.
Your Opportunity
As the Youth Engagement Officer, you’ll have the opportunity to promote our Youth Service, by providing community education, promoting early help-seeking, and engaging with young people throughout the region.
Initially you will be out and about in the community meeting local stakeholders, which include schools, youth hubs, community centres, sports clubs and other service providers. Working closely with your team, you will design and coordinate events and activities to engage local youth.
The role is fixed term until June 2025 with possible extension, as a 0.4FTE, and we are flexible around the days and hours of work – this role allows you to genuinely balance your work and life. The hourly rate is $43.08 - $51.51 depending on experience, plus Superannuation and Salary Packaging benefits.
We strongly encourage applicants from LGBTIQAP+ and Indigenous communities to apply.
What are we looking for?
Having already established yourself in the field of community engagement or youth support, you will be a strong networker who has a passion for supporting young people in their mental and physical health.
To be successful in this role you will:
* Be a natural communicator who loves talking to people, providing information, and exchanging ideas
* Demonstrate significant experience in community engagement and networking and the promotion of new services or programs – this role will require you to promote the service across a range of groups
* Be confident and comfortable interacting with young people in their environments, including schools, sports clubs, and community centres, and the ability to inspire and motivate young people
* Enjoy interfacing with other providers to action campaigns and projects – you’ll bring energy and creativity to the planning and delivery of events
* Have an inclusive attitude and a background working with diverse groups including LGBTIQAP+, CALD, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
* Be comfortable working reasonably independently within a small team – you’ll be self-managing and have confidence to set expectations in what you can, and can’t, achieve
* Love working with talented people who are humble, human, and full of hope. We’re dedicated to helping others, no matter how difficult or complex the challenge – and you will be too!
You will need to hold a relevant Tertiary qualification, an Australian Drivers Licence and Working with Children Check (NSW).
