Job Summary:
The Team:
The Economics Team at Passenger Transportation Board is a hardworking, collaborative, and innovative group playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of passenger transportation regulation. Established in 2023, this small but mighty team consists of three members (Senior Economist, Economist, and Economic Analyst), working closely with the Board's Systems Analyst and Policy Analysts. Their work is groundbreaking, bringing economic analysis into the regulatory space in a way that may serve as a model for other jurisdictions. As the industry evolves with new technological advances, this team is at the forefront of promoting economically sustainable transportation solutions for B.C.'s future.
The Role:
The Senior Economist provides economic expertise to support the Board's independent decision-making on passenger transportation regulations. This role involves leading complex economic analysis, developing forecasting models, and managing data to assess industry trends and policy impacts. With a focus on objective data-driven evidence, the position ensures economic considerations are integrated into regulatory decisions that affect both industry stakeholders and the public.
Qualifications:
A PhD in Economics. Three years experience conducting and leading major and complex economic studies and/or research projects, including designing and implementing statistical analysis or economic modelling projects. Two years experience applying advanced econometric theories and techniques. One year experience leading a specialized team. Preference may be given to candidates with experience in transportation economics. Preference may be given to candidates fluent in SQL, R, and PowerBI. About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement. An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies. A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required. Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
