The Department of Ocean Engineering and Marine Sciences at Florida Tech seeks post-doc in Meteorology/Hydrometeorology. Under the supervision of Drs. Steven Lazarus and Pallav Ray, the research topics to be explored include the physical processes through which a warmer climate influences the sea breeze and heat stress, and how changes in large-scale circulations influence local-to-regional precipitation patterns and river flooding along Florida’s east coast. The work involves a combination of observations, and high-resolution modeling in collaboration with Drs. Jiali Wang, William Pringle, and Haochen Tan from the Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory. The position will be located at Florida Tech. The Department of Ocean Engineering and Marine Sciences (OEMS) at Florida Tech has undergraduate and graduate degree programs that include atmospheric, ocean, and life sciences, as well as ocean engineering. OEMS has 26 faculty members, approximately 300 undergraduate students, and 100 M.S. and Ph.D. students.
Qualification/Responsibilities for the Postdoc position:
The candidate should have a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science, Hydrology, Engineering, or a related field with experience in atmospheric modeling and high-performance computing. The primary qualifications include: (i) The ability to analyze large datasets and conduct downscaling experiments over urban areas for thermal mapping and for flood forecasting using high-resolution models. Therefore, experience with global or regional modeling will be preferred; (ii) A proficiency with one or more programming languages (e.g., Fortran, Matlab, Python, R, NCL, etc.); (iii) An ability to work independently and to collaborate with team members from diverse backgrounds. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The position is initially for one year with an extension of up to three years based on satisfactory performance. Please include your resume with your academic qualification/education, a 1-page research statement, a list of publications (with a link to your google scholar), and the contact information of three references in a single pdf. Applications received before October 1 will receive full consideration, but will remain open until filled. The position is expected to start as soon as possible.
If you have any questions regarding these positions, please email Dr. Steven Lazarus (). The candidates selected for these positions will be required to provide documentation of the highest degree completed.
