Providing services to the Katherine Community relating to rates, roads, infrastructure, animal control, waste management and other core essential services.At the heart of the Big Rivers region is Katherine, the fourth largest township in the Northern Territory.
Outside of Darwin and Palmerston Local Government Areas, Katherine is the next major regional centre closest to the Port of Darwin; the only major multimodal port located in Northern Australia and Australia's gateway to the Asia Pacific.Katherine is located at a critical crossroads point for Northern Australia and the top end, connecting Perth to Darwin from the west and Adelaide to Darwin through the north/south highway and rail corridor.
Katherine services the wider region with access to education and medical services.Around 8,000 people live in the Katherine municipality.

The position is responsible to the provision of high-level administrative support for services, works, contracts and initiatives relating to the outputs of the Department.
Provide internal support for Managers and Directors for matters relating to the Department's works and services, project support and other ad hoc administrative duties.
The Infrastructure and Environment Department provides internal and external services related to Municipal works and services for Katherine and Binjari communities, including Waste Management, Airport, Cemetery, Buildings and Facilities, Road Network, Stormwater Network, Outdoor Lighting, Parks, Open Spaces and Trees, as well as management of Council's Fleet of plant and equipmentKey Requirements :Demonstrated ability to meet the positions key responsibilitiesExperience in Microsoft Officer products and packagesHigh Level customer service experienceExperience in positively engaging a team environmentAbility to understand various legislations, statutory obligation and Council policies in order to make informed decisionsDemonstrated experience and ability to deliver good outcomesExtensive knowledge and skill gained through on-the-job trainingMinimum experience of 2 years in similar or related roleExperience in Local GovernmentExperience in Rating, Administration and Customers Service Care and SupportJob Responsibility :Provide professional secretarial and administrative support to the Infrastructure & Environment Services team to ensure that operations are maintained in an effective and accurate manner, support pressing deadlines and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.Liaise and provide administrative support for the Council Advisory Committees.Undertake duties and responsibilities to assist with tendering of works, services and/or projects including assisting in the collation of tender documents, communicating with tenderers and creating correspondence for tender processes.
Oversee and monitor financial obligations for period contracts and standing ordersMaintain and update Council's key register, take responsibility for internal audits and ensure accurate information is maintained and updated regularlyCoordinate Council's domestic rubbish collection service, including collections, requests, maintenance of bins, coordinating with Council's contractor and ensuring bins in public areas are scheduled to be emptied and ensure bins are available and emptied for facility hires;Implementation and ongoing monitoring of Council streetlighting infrastructure including streetlighting faults.Undertake the updating, accuracy and maintenance of the Infrastructure Departments specialised computer programsReceive and process burial requests, ensuring the relevant procedures are followed; and provide administration, policy and planning support relating to Cemetery mattersUndertake administrative support for the general operations of the Airport, which includes assisting in writing reports and creating correspondence for the purpose of the Airport's operations;Process permits and applications received for Development Planning, road opening/closing, oversize/over mass vehicles, asbestos and deep burial.Assist with the administrative process of Council's tree maintenance program.Provide relevant support services to the Binjari Aboriginal Community Association.Provide non-standard reports for the Infrastructure & Environment team to go to Council from time to time and reports to be included in the Annual and Municipal Plan.Work collaboratively and cross-functionally with the additional Infrastructure and Environment Administration OfficerOther responsibilities as shall be reasonable associated with or incidental to the above responsibilities or as shall, in the course of the employment be agreed between the parties as being or forming part of the duties.Organisational ResponsibilitiesEnsure compliance with Workplace Health and Safety requirements.
