About the role
We’re seeking casual Traffic Control Room Officers to work in our busy control rooms, redirect traffic flow, coordinate response teams, and relay critical info to keep our roads safe, all while remaining naturally composed and alert at all times.
You’ll join an innovative team, who tirelessly monitor the flow of the traffic with an eagle eye and respond with lightning speed in the event of incidents, both big and small.
As our Traffic Control Room Officer, you’ll contribute to lasting and positive changes that shape the future of our cities and communities. It’s meaningful, challenging and exciting work.
Day-to-day, you will:
1. Work with different control systems to monitor and manage traffic on both open roads and in tunnels
2. Automated Height Detectors, Road Management systems, CCTV, Automatic Incident Detection Systems – these are just some of the things you will get to know like the back of your hand
3. Work collaboratively with field staff, Emergency Service and your team, you will act swiftly to respond to incidents to contain the event and keep everyone safe
4. Incident Management and Traffic Management plans will become second nature to you, you will create these with ease to ensure our roads run more efficiently and safely when things don’t go to plan
5. Your curious mind will drive you to think bigger, and find new ways to improve our processes, traffic management, and make recommendations
6. Collate real time info on road conditions for our stakeholders, the media and our customers, so there are no surprises when they use our roads
7. Understand the importance of rigorous knowledge of traffic management policies, practices and procedures, including operational systems.
This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including:
8. Experience in a monitoring centre or operational environment
9. Computer smart and analytical, you’re fascinated with new technology and systems - you like to jump in the deep end
10. Driven, resilient and efficient, showing confidence and professionalism no matter how challenging the situation is
11. Organised, efficient and decisive in in prioritising the tasks that count, all while juggling multiple tasks
12. Experienced in writing reports and you know which important details to include so the operation runs smoothly
13. Shift work’s your thing, you’ve done it before and you like it – our roads are open 24/7.
