About the JobAbout the roleThe Rail Safety Officer (RSO) plays a crucial role in driving a positive safety culture by coaching and advising Protection Officers on safeworking procedures and compliance. This includes ensuring the consistent application of PTA safeworking rules, evaluating protection officer performance, and providing corrective actions where necessary. The role involves incident investigation, post-incident debriefing, and coaching to assess competency and implement safety improvements. Additionally, the RSO assists in developing and reviewing safeworking protection plans, manages cultural change within teams, and applies best practices to rail safety issues.The position also ensures compliance through audits, competency assessments, and procedural reviews while collaborating with stakeholders such as suppliers, Learning and Organizational Development teams, and project managers to enhance safety training and implementation. The RSO identifies improvement opportunities by analysing safeworking data, recommending enhancements, and developing coaching programs for Protection Officers. The role also contributes to risk management by participating in assessments, advising on best practices, and updating staff on changes to rules, procedures, and equipment that impact rail safety operations.About You!To excel in this role, you should possess:Extensive field experience in rail safety, strong knowledge of technical standards and safety legislation, and proven ability to develop and mentor others.
