ABOUT THE DIVISION & BRANCH Budget Policy and Data Division is responsible for Finance's contributions to the annual budget process and leads Finance's data governance activities. It has a centre of expertise in data analytics to assist teams across the Department. The division collaborates with other functions across Finance to develop and maintain our data governance frameworks and our adherence with the Data Availability and Transparency Act 2022 (DATA Scheme). It also provides expert data analytics services to support Finance's budget, policy, delivery and operational activities. Data Governance and Analytics Branch was established in late 2023 to be responsible for: enterprise data governance for Finance, integrated with whole of government data frameworks and policies; the management of requests for Finance data under the DATA Scheme; and enterprise data analytics, including providing data-based insights to inform Finance's advice on government expenditure, program delivery and operations. The Branch is also responsible for facilitating government consideration of all policy priorities through the Greens Brief process to the Expenditure Review Committee/National Security Committee and managing communication of key Federal Budget and whole-of-government requirements via Estimates Memoranda, and communication materials related to the Budget and MYEFO updates. The Data Governance team supports Finance's enterprise data governance function. We are responsible for policies, frameworks and guidance material to improve how Finance governs, manages and utilises our data, lifting data capability across Finance. The Data Governance team support Finance through: Development of data policies and practices to support data users and manage data risks. Raising awareness of the benefits of best practice data management in Finance. Improving the visibility of data assets through the internal Finance data inventory. Supporting Finance's responsibilities under the Data and Digital Government Strategy. Facilitating Finance's contribution to the Australian Government Data Catalogue. Promoting data activities and facilitate collaboration through forums including: Senior Data Group (chaired by the Chief Data Officer); Data Stewards Forum.; and Identification and development of customised data governance training in partnership with Human Resources Branch. The key duties of the position include THE OPPORTUNITY As a member of the Data Governance team, the successful candidate's duties and responsibilities would include: contributing to the creation of internal data governance policies and educational resources in alignment with current legislative and organisational requirements (including data sharing, data management and data literacy) to support good data practice; undertaking research and analysis to support development of guidance materials, including maintaining awareness of best-practice and whole of government approaches to data governance; contribute to the identification of data capability gaps and the development of educational resources to support organisational requirements and good data practice; working collaboratively as part of a team establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders to support quality business outcomes; and assisting with reporting requirements, supporting forums and engagement with staff at all levels to lift data capability across Finance.
