Disability Support Worker - Compass Enterprise Kitchen
Who is the Compass Institute?
At Compass, we believe in the extraordinary potential of human beings and are driven to create a world where EVERYONE can have the opportunity to create the life of their choice.
We use an innovative further education model that enables young people with a disability to make a smooth transition from school to an increasingly independent future. Our programs promote physical, mental and emotional well-being, empowering young people to lead rich and meaningful lives.
Starting in 2003 with just three Trainees, the organisation now employs over 85 specialist staff and provides post-school education, training and vocational opportunities to over 160 Trainees at 5 locations from Gympie through to Caboolture.
In addition to the Compass Campuses, Compass has a diverse range of social enterprises that provide real-world, skills-based training across multiple areas - including Compass Farm (a 20-acre organic farm), Connections Café, Garden Café, Harvest Kitchen, Wabi Sabi retail stores and Rakes & Panes Service Crews.

What can I expect in a typical day working day as a Support Worker in Harvest Kitchen?
Harvest Kitchen is located at Compass Farm and provides a wide range of food production learning opportunities for numerous Trainees on any given day, including food preparation, cooking, packaging and serving skills.
This commercial style kitchen has two functions. One is to provide home-cooked meals to Compass Farm Trainees and Staff on a daily basis. The second team of Trainees works with our Enterprise Support Worker to produce a wide range of delicious condiments including chutneys, jams, pickles, sauces and flavored salts, made from produce at the Farm and from other local suppliers.
For many of our Trainees, working in Harvest Kitchen in the supported environment that supports their learning goals is also an important training ground and stepping stone into one of our customer-facing social enterprise Cafes, so there is an important focus on building skills and developing confidence towards achieving individual development goals.
