About The Role The role of Solicitor is a member of the Commercial Law team, which sits within the Legal and Legislation Branch. Our role is to provide high quality legal and legislative advice and services on a broad range of matters across the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions. There is always a great variety of interesting work. The Department covers a diverse range of portfolios, including: Jobs and Industry Creative Industries Tourism, Sport and Major Events Economic Growth Skills and TAFE Medical Research Small Business Regional Development Employment The types of legal issues you will deal with are predominantly commercial and contractual matters, and issues arising from the administration of portfolio legislation. You will advise a diverse client group including regional staff, policy officers and decision makers. About You We welcome applications from commercial lawyers with in-house, government or private practice experience. To succeed in the role, you will need: Relevant experience as a Government lawyer or in corporate or private practice. Experience in drafting a range of legal documentation particularly in a commercial context. Ability to provide clear advice on a range of legal issues preferably in a government context. Effective written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional and collaborative working relations across the department and external stakeholders. Ability to work constructively and effectively in a team environment, to plan and prioritise tasks, working with tight timelines.
