About Otolaryngology Department
The department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery provides adult and paediatric services to South Tasmania for primary and secondary care, and it is the tertiary referral Otolaryngology Department for Tasmania.
The unit is currently staffed by 3 Visiting Medical Officers (VMO) FRACS consultants, 1 Clinical Medical Officer, 2 Unaccredited Registrars and 1 Resident. The department was accredited by RACS to employ one Accredited Registrar from 2024.
The Department consultants and the Junior staff are involved in running general outpatient clinic and specialised clinics (Head and Neck, Laryngology, Congenital hearing loss) and theatre sessions. It is very well supported by an Audiology department and Speech Pathology Department.
We provide an ongoing on call roster and we expect the ENT Surgeons joining us in the future to share this roster with other consultants.
We are working closely with our colleagues from other department such as Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic surgery, Respiratory and Paediatric Department and Department of Emergency and others, when combined care is required for complex cases.
The Department is involved in research and in teaching medical students from University of Tasmania, our junior staff and in training doctors from other specialities and nurses.
Our Outpatient clinics and Theatre facilities are supported by qualified and dedicated administrative staff and high standard equipment.

This Visiting Medical Practitioner position at the RHH is also flexible to be negotiated as full / part time Staff Specialist.

Salary
Visiting Medical Specialist Level 1 – Level 4 $161.67 to $194.30 per hour:
1. exclusive of paid recreation leave, sick leave, conference leave and sabbatical leave entitlements and subject to any increases in remuneration in accordance with the Tasmanian Visiting Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2019
2. The hourly rate is commensurate to years of service.

Visiting Medical Specialist Level 1 – Level 4 (RUR) $187.50 to $225.38 per hour:
3. inclusive of paid recreation leave, sick leave, conference leave and sabbatical leave entitlements and subject to any increases in remuneration in accordance with the Tasmanian Visiting Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2019
4. The hourly rate is commensurate to years of service.

Period of Employment
Fixed term part-time day work (with on-call) working up to 36 hours per fortnight commencing 2 January 2024 until 31 December 2024.

Duties
6. Provide elective and emergency services for ENT patients including diagnosis, treatment and postoperative care for patients, both inpatient and outpatient, at the RHH.
7. In consultation with other clinical services, assist with the management of RHH patients.
8. Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs.
9. Undertake research in the field of ENT.
10. Participate in an out of hours On Call Roster.

11. Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
