About the department
The Perioperative Service at the Women’s is a comprehensive, dedicated department incorporating all aspects involved in surgical intervention for patients, including the Operating Theatre and the Day Surgery Unit. The Operating Suite provides surgical services 24 hours per day, seven days a week and consists of five operating theatres, including one dedicated emergency theatre, two procedure rooms, and a ten bay PACU. Surgical specialties include Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Urogynaecology, Breast, and Oncology.
About the role
As a Theatre Technician you will provide patient-focused, evidence-based care for women and babies and their families, in a multidisciplinary team environment. Grade 3 Theatre Technicians will also undertake supervisory and training tasks, and/or quality and governance.
A regular day will see you:
1. Assist nursing staff in preparing the operating theatre for surgery
2. Support medical and nursing staff in transferring and positioning patients
3. Provide transportation of patients within and outside the operating suite
4. Assist with duties required at the completion of each operation or procedure
5. Deliver specimens to the Pathology Laboratory

About you
You will be someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and an ability to work within a culturally diverse environment. You’ll take a team approach to your work, and be able to effectively plan and prioritise your time.
You’ll either hold a Theatre Technician qualification/Certificate IV in Operating Theatre Technician Support (HLT), or be working towards one - we can support with you with your training and learning, including offering study leave and mentorship!
You'll also bring with you:
6. Experience in working effectively in a multidisciplinary team
7. An ability to work a rotating roster of weekdays, weekends and night duty
8. Prior experience as a Theatre Technician as per the EBA (ideally)
