About the role:
This position is being created to support our new school rapid enrolment and staff growth, v9 Australian Curriculum alignment and to further embed our school motto, Passion & Purpose, into our curriculum. This position is responsible for leading the development of English, Mathematics, Science, HASS and Technologies units for Prep to Year 6 (including teaching sequences, assessment pieces, marking guides and ICPs), aligned to the Australian Curriculum and the CENTRAL Way. This role also oversees and supports the development of curriculum for Languages, HPE and The Arts.
This position has a non-teaching load, however may assist in building teacher capability in teaching and learning through our Collegial Engagement Framework and Beginning Teacher supports. They will also lead moderation, using the BAAE model and play a role in chairing Case Management Meeting groups.
An understanding of the pedagogical approaches and flexible seating and classroom arrangements employed by our school is essential to fulfilling this role both in document creation and enactment in our classrooms. The Head of Department - Curriculum (HOD-C) position will form part of our Executive Leadership Team, joining our Principal, Business Manager, two Deputy Principals and Head of Inclusion. The HOD-C reports to the Principal, supported closely by our Deputy Principals and Head of Inclusion.
As the Head of Department (Curriculum) you will:
1. Lead curriculum focus in line with school and departmental initiatives
2. Participate in delivering the vision of State Schools Division
3. Develop the quality of teaching and learning
4. Nurture positive relationships between students, teachers and stakeholders.
Responsibilities include:
5. Lead the relevant curriculum areas or whole school program to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
6. Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
7. Set high standards for student and staff performance.
8. Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
9. Form partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
10. Be futures oriented and strategic.
11. Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students and staff within the school department.
12. Manage the human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources of the curriculum areas or whole school program to achieve goals.
