About the Department
The Environmental Services department falls within the Planning and Environmental Services directorate and plays a critical role in delivering on the liveability of our region. The Regulatory Services, Local Laws and Waste Management teams cover a diverse range of roles and responsibilities from ensuring food and public health safety, investigating environmental nuisance and pollution incidences, animal control, pest management, environmental sustainability programs and planning and building compliance. Furthermore, the department delivers all aspects of waste operations including roadside collections, waste facilities, investigating waste minimisation and resource recovery opportunities and the strategic management of waste in Southern Downs.
Your Opportunity
The Waste Management & Compliance Officer works in a small professional team who are responsible for effective and sustainable waste management across the region. The role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with statutory requirements in relation to waste management matters.
Term: Full-time
Hours of Work: 72.5 hours per fortnight
Pay Level: $2,806.57 to $3,455.97 per fortnight (Level 3 - 5), plus superannuation and annual leave loading
In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependant on relevant skills and experience.
Employment Base: Warwick, Queensland

Provide advice, develop and review management systems, policies and processes to cover Council’s waste management facilities and waste collection operations.
Assist and/or manage and monitor compliance requirements and external and internal reporting as required by relevant legislation and statutory requirements, and Council’s organisational needs.
Participate and/or lead projects in waste minimisation and resource recovery that align with Council’s waste management strategy as adopted by Council and/or regional/state waste management strategies.
Assist and/or lead the contract management of Council’s waste management activities, including collections, landfill operations and waste facility management.
Participate in project management of waste management activities and projects, including procurement processes and managing delivery of contracts/projects, in accordance with legislative and Council requirements.
Liaise with contractors, other Local Governments, Regional, State and Federal Agencies on waste management matters.
General duties contributing to the successful operation of the Department.

What You Will Need
To be successful in this role, you will need:
Attention to detail and ability to thrive in a small team
Well developed research, analytical and problem solving skills, including proven ability to translate operational requirements governed by relevant legislation, contracts and regulations into policies, processes and procedures.
Experience in data management, including sourcing, collation and analysis, to meet required legislative and/or procedural outcomes.
Ability to write technical documents, including reports, procedures and management plans.
Ability to plan work, scope and manage contracts, projects and operational activities to ensure high quality outcomes are delivered.
