Senior Legal Counsel $158,839.00 per annum + 11.5% superannuation Full time, ongoing opportunity Wadawurrung / Geelong based role (hybrid work from home - 3 days a week in office) About the opportunity This role is responsible for providing high level legal advice and working collaboratively with a number of key business areas across WorkSafe as a senior legal counsel in WorkSafe's Corporate Legal Division. The Senior Legal Counsel will be responsible for independently managing complex commercial and administrative law matters and high profile litigation.
Key accountabilities Provide high quality, client focused, strategic and practical legal advice and assistance to all divisions of WorkSafe and WorkSafe/TAC joint collaborations, on various corporate and commercial legal issues with a focus on contract law, corporate governance and procurement Assist the Manager, Corporate and Commercial Team to manage WorkSafe's commercial litigation Manage civil and administrative review litigation on behalf of WorkSafe Effectively negotiate commercial agreements and disputes Analyse and interpret complex legislation, including the various Acts, Orders and Regulations at a high level and provide comprehensive, authoritative and practical operational and administrative law advice Assist the Manager, Corporate and Commercial to develop legal skills of legal officers and legal counsel in the provision of corporate and commercial legal advice including on litigation, administrative law, tenders, contracts, trade practices, trademarks, real property, intellectual property and other business law issues Prepare (or assist with the preparation of) briefing papers for the Board(s) and Chief Executive(s) on matters requiring their attention You are an experienced corporate and commercial legal professional, with the ability to consult on sensitive issues and offer constructive solutions within critical timeframes. Your communication, negotiation and organisational skills are highly developed, and your strong interpersonal skills allow you to establish and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You have the ability to work independently, as well as a part of a high performing team.
Additionally, you will possess the following skills and experience: A minimum of 4 years post qualification experience preferred, any experience gained in-house including in-house government teams will be highly regarded Agreement to hold sole practitioner certificate to act for WorkSafe and WorkSafe and TAC joint collaborations Experience providing quality corporate and commercial legal advice with a focus on contract law, IT services, corporate governance, real property, administrative law, trademarks, procurement, trade practices and intellectual property Demonstrated ability to assist identifying and achieving improvements to processes and procedures to improve service delivery and manage risk Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating and advising on contracts, variations and terminations including complex large scale contracts Demonstrated experience in civil litigation in Victorian court system An understanding of the constraints of a statutory, regulatory environment and demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislative provisions and judicial precedent High level strategic, analytical and critical legal decision making capabilities Professional legal qualifications and admission to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria Working with us At WorkSafe, our goal is for every employee to feel connected, safe, and valued within their team, for teams to feel appreciated in the workplace, and for WorkSafe to be respected in the community.
