Imparja commenced services in 1988 and now operates 28 retransmission sites within the Remote Central and Eastern Australian (RCEA) licence area. Our broadcast area covers over 3.6 million square kilometres, spanning six states and territories, reaching around 200 remote Indigenous communities and 75,000 homes. It is estimated that Imparja broadcasts daily to more than 1 million viewers.ABOUT THE ROLEReporting directly to an Aboriginal Board of Directors, the CEO is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the performance of the organisation and ensuring strong governance and oversight by the Board. The CEO will manage the performance of all Imparja operational business units and foster a positive team culture where all staff feel supported, empowered, and confident in their work.A key priority for the CEO will be to support the Board in implementing an updated Strategic Plan and to build on recent improvements to governance, including Board engagement. The CEO will also drive revenue through commercial sales, advertising, sponsorships, and partnerships.The position involves implementing the Strategic Plan operationally across all business units, ensuring all staff understand their roles in achieving the Board’s strategic goals. The CEO will ensure each business unit has a clear operational plan that sets out strategic, operational, financial, revenue, culture, and customer service benchmarks, while also ensuring compliance with existing funded activities and identifying additional funding sources to support the Board's strategic direction.The CEO must manage relationships with various internal and external stakeholders positively and collaboratively. The CEO has direct responsibility for overseeing the following business units:GovernanceRisk and complianceFinanceHuman ResourcesProperty and AssetsSalesEngineeringProductionITTraffic and LogisticsProgrammingSELECTION CRITERIACandidates for the position of Chief Executive Officer must address the following selection criteria:Key responsibilities:Operations and content management; and marketing and audience engagement for Imparja.Manage and maintain relationships with Aboriginal Board Directors effectively through ethical governance, business practice, and financial management.Implement Imparja’s next Strategic Plan, including supporting the development of an annual operational plan across each business unit that connects the work of the organisation to the Strategic Plan.Stay ahead of industry trends, emerging technologies, and audience behaviour to drive innovation.Lead Imparja’s team, fostering an inclusive, safe, collaborative, and empowered work environment.Represent Imparja in appropriate industry forums to build awareness of and grow the organisation’s reach and reputation.Experience with corporate governance compliance responsibilities and an understanding of legislative responsibilities of a not-for-profit/community-led organisation.Strong capability in managing budgets, financial performance and reporting, and implementing long-term organisational strategies to ensure sustainable growth and impact.Oversee quality and compliance across the organisation, including within broadcast guidelines.Build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including community leaders, government agencies, funding bodies, and private sector partners.Travel to conduct remote work, with occasional travel for business meetings, industry events, and station operations.Essential experience:Minimum five years experience working at a senior level in broadcasting, media management, or a similar industry, including demonstrated experience in running a similar sized organisation or business.A respectful and consultative leadership style that empowers and builds trust with staff and the Board.Knowledge of digital media trends, OTT platforms, and audience engagement strategies.Persistent approach to time management and meeting deadlines.Strong commitment to ethical practices, good governance, transparency, and accountability in all aspects of organisational operations.Demonstrated capacity in the use of corporate business systems to support organisational performance.Deep respect for and sensitivity to the diverse cultural values, traditions, and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with a passion for supporting self-determination and empowerment.EDUCATION:Tertiary skills in finance, business, management or 10 years demonstrated relevant experience at a senior level in television broadcasting, media management, or a similar industry.SALARY RANGEThis is a senior executive position, and we are looking for the right candidate.
