ROLE
Located in Melbourne, this position is suitable for a Research and Innovation Manager with expertise in personal care research and development. The person in this role will foster creativity and productivity within a dynamic, modern R&D laboratory and uphold continuous stringent quality standards.
Reporting to the Managing Director (MD), the key duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
* Lead a skilled Research & Development team, providing mentorship, coaching, and professional development, fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and innovation.
* Manage the entire product lifecycle, from ideation to discontinuation, ensuring products are continuously improved and optimised.
* Ensure formulations align with current and future market demands and consumer needs.
* Ensure compliance of the R&D laboratory with TGA and GMP standards.
* Identify and develop innovative personal care products to enhance the product portfolio.
* Continuously improve and streamline the product development process to enhance speed to market and reduce costs.
* Manage projects effectively to meet target cost and timeline objectives.
* Identify opportunities for cost reduction and enhancements in existing formulations and procedures.
* Identify alternative sources for raw materials to optimise supply chain efficiency.
* Monitor global trends and changes within the personal care category to inform product development.
* Oversee the formula development schedule, ensuring adherence to product development timelines.
* Provide timely and accurate information to internal and external customers.
* Offer technical assistance to Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, and Sales departments as needed.
* Manage departmental expenditure to ensure alignment with budgetary goals.
* Capture all research and development activities to maximize R&D grant assistance.
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal Head of Research & Innovation will be a qualified scientist with many years of experience in the formulation and development of personal care products and ideally, sunscreens.
* At a minimum, a Diploma in personal care or relevant degree qualifications in science. A Masters or PhD will be well-regarded.
* Substantial experience in research and development of personal and/or sun care products including familiarity with relevant technologies and equipment.
* Experience in R&D at a contract manufacturing company highly regarded.
* Substantial demonstrated experience in a senior R&D leadership role.
* Familiarity and knowledge of TGA regulations and standards related to personal care, sun care and cosmetics to ensure compliance with relevant government legislation, and industry regulations.
* Experience in developing and managing R&D budgets and allocating resources effectively.
* Strong strategic thinking and the ability to align R&D efforts with overall business goals and market trends.
* Strong record-keeping and reporting skills.
* Experience in monitoring and managing the progress of multiple projects, ensuring adherence to budget, timeline, and quality standards.
* Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, team-oriented and good work ethic with the ability to achieve successful outcomes.
