The Role
The Lead Mobile Engineer is an experienced, technicallypetent individual contributor responsible for developing a high-quality developer experience for our Mobile applications. They are responsible for leading technical initiatives and, with the Technical Manager of Mobile, owning and supporting the application. They are a champion of Continuous Delivery practices within the broader team driving modern, collaborative engineering to facilitate best-in-class engineering oues.
They will collaborate closely with the Technical Manager of Mobile to develop and execute on a roadmap of initiatives to capitalise on operational efficiencies and enable federated, autonomous/self-service delivery of mobile experiences across our Value Streams, leveraging their team and the Value Streams to deliver on that work. They will also play a key role in influencing our engineering function to promote and foster high-quality engineering practices.
With the support of the leadership team, they will own the technical solution and design of software, working closely with their team to meet delivery objectives and building out the appropriate technology platform to support these objectives.
They champion their team's success, drive thoughtful conversation during tech huddles and retrospectives, and encourage others to develop their knowledge of modern engineering practices.
Your key responsibilities include:
1. With the Head of Engineering, develop and execute on a roadmap for the uplift and federation of mobile development within our Value Streams.
2. Develop, support, and maintain the mobile developer experience and platform using best practices across a range of technologies, ensuring high-quality, easily maintainable, efficient, tested, and scalable code.
3. Develop a robust, automated, and Continuous Delivery practice within the team, prioritising rapid feedback loops.
4. Developing high-quality, timely solutions collaboratively with the team and appropriate members throughout the engineering function across various technologies used to develop our mobile applications.
5. Working incrementally towards the delivery of the platform. Collaborating closely with Product using customer data and insights to drive solutions.
6. Establishing strong quality and automation practices, toolings, and processes.
7. Lead technical projects, including architecture and design decisions, code reviews/pairing, and mentoring of junior team members.
8. Working closely with our Platform teams to implement software leveraging our internal tools, frameworks, and infrastructure where appropriate.
9. Collaborating closely with product owners, delivery leads, and business analysts
10. Contributing to the improvement of software development lifecycle processes
11. Participating in and, at times, facilitating Engineering Dojos.
About You:
12. 6+ years of software engineering experience with > 1 year spent leading a platform or technical initiative
13. Expertise in TypeScript/JavaScript, React (React Native), and mobile development.
14. Experience writing native code across iOS and Android (Objective-C, Swift, Java/Kotlin).
15. Hands-on experience managing, build and testing infrastructure for iOS and Android utilising a device farm (BrowserStack)
16. Experience building highly performant mobile applications.
17. Experienced in Continuous Delivery practices (CI, TBD, etc.)
18. Hands-on knowledge of testing methodologies (TDD, BDD, mocking, etc.)
19. Experience using automation tools to build robust, automated build/release/deploy processes ( Github Actions)
20. Solid grasp of software design patterns (, SOLID, MVVM/MVC, Clean Architecture, DDD, Strategy/Observer/Facade) and both object-oriented and functional programming.
21. Experience developing and managing a platform for external developers/teams.
22. Proven ability to work with remote, global teams.
