Are you a power systems expert looking for a dynamic role where you can make a real impact? As a Senior Operations Engineer in Western Power's Network Operations team, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the South West Interconnected System (SWIS).

Your Role in Action
Assess and manage outage requests, conduct risk assessments, and liaise with AEMO to maintain network security. Provide expert advice on outage planning and engage with internal and external stakeholders, including private customers and AEMO. Develop contingency plans and explore alternative work methods to reduce security and regulatory risks. Investigate and address safety, security, and reliability issues, ensuring stakeholders are informed. Mentor and train new starters, peers, and graduates, contributing to training material and compliance assessments. Review and refine operating procedures to enhance service delivery, safety, and regulatory compliance. Ensure network modifications and customer connections meet operational requirements and are updated in SCADA and ratings systems. Conduct complex network incident investigations and reporting against performance targets. Provide real-time engineering support for critical operational challenges. Analyse and recommend optimal outage windows to minimise network risks. Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including Synergy, Independent Power Producers, AEMO, and Western Power's operational teams. Rotate across various streams of work, including outage coordination, planning, and real-time operational support, with the flexibility to cover Team Leader roles as needed. What Makes You a Great Fit
Degree in Engineering A seasoned professional with a minimum of 9+ years broad and extensive knowledge and expertise in electrical or power engineering environment with substantial experience in transmission and or distribution related areas Extensive power generation knowledge/experience Competent subject matter expertise and technical leadership skills and well-developed written, verbal and communications skills Strong proficiency in computer systems e.g. DM, Microsoft Office, Power Point, and load flow and fault level studies. Competent in transmission planning and safe network operation experience Experience in analysing transmission and distribution system security issues with recommendation for actions Strong electrical engineering knowledge with respect to HV/LV construction, maintenance and commissioning practices, power station, protection, SCADA, and communications systems and practices across transmission and distribution networks By joining Western Power, you will contribute to powering a cleaner energy future.
