Job Summary
:
In this role, you will work in a team of tax professionals and work closely with other finance professionals and external consultants, researching and assisting with advising our business on a wide range of corporate and international tax issues in connection with large scale, cross border engineering and construction projects around the world. You will prepare / review forms and supporting workpapers for tax compliance, provision, forecasts and audits. You will provide counsel and help develop tax strategies and policies and ensure these are met.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Engages with projects and undertakes research of international tax compliance and planning implications to support tax guidance to business for foreign operations, including contract language, entity structuring, permanent establishment issues, expatriate tax, tax treaty impacts, indirect and withholding tax planning and monitoring and advising on transfer pricing matters
2. Researches tax implications of proposed transactions and restructurings that involve non-US entities and prepares guidance to senior tax management
3. Prepares and reviews work papers associated with tax forecasts, accruals and provisions for operations in the Asia Pacific region, US foreign tax credits/limitations, assessment of deferred tax assets and liabilities for foreign affiliates and related matters
4. Prepares and/or reviews tax returns, information forms and other filing requirements associated with operations in the Asia Pacific region
5. Reviews quarterly and year-end close tax accounting entries and reporting for the region
6. Prepares and reviews transfer pricing documentation for the region in accordance with local country requirements and related workpapers
7. Reviews tax assessments, assists as necessary with tax queries or audits by tax authorities in the Asia Pacific region and assists with tax objections or appeals in relation to tax assessments
8. Identifies tax issues and communicates to senior tax management
9. Builds relationships internally with Bechtel business colleagues and supports the work of external advisors
10. Expands knowledge of tax laws, regulations, court decisions, proposed changes, and other current tax issues, especially as they relate to international operations.
Education and Experience Requirements:
11. Requires a B.Acc, Masters in Taxation or B.Bus degree with accounting major/emphasis (or international equivalent)
12. Requires CPA, ICAANZ or Tax Institute membership (or international equivalent)
13. Requires majority of experience to be specialized in tax preparation and planning/structuring relating to large multinational corporations at a recognized Big 4 accounting firm or large law firm (large corporation experience or tax authority equivalent experience will also be considered)
Required Knowledge and Skills:
The following prior tax experience will be highly regarded:
14. A minimum of 5 years advising large international corporations on tax planning and structuring, either in a Big 4 accounting firm, large law firm or in-house in a large multinational corporation
15. A strong understanding of and practical experience in tax accruals and tax effect accounting concepts
16. A strong understanding of the relationship between double tax agreements and tax risks as well as appropriate strategies to manage these risks
17. An understanding of transfer pricing principles and associated requirements
18. An understanding of the OECD's BEPS initiatives, including hybrid mismatch rules and Pillar Two

21. Strong team player with demonstrated leadership ability who is customer focused and has the ability to communicate cross functionally
22. Adaptable and flexible, with the ability to work across cultures and time zones
23. Self-motivated, can work with minimal supervision and is able to work to deadlines
