Position Details
Health and Physical Education Teacher
Mater Dei College has the opportunity for a full-time temporary Health and Physical Education Teacher to become an integral part of the College’s Health and Physical Education Learning Area, commencing 3rd June 2025 until 26th September 2025 as a long service leave cover.
We are seeking a vibrant, passionate, and confident individual who is committed to helping our students reach their full potential.
The Health and Physical Teacher will be responsible for a variety of tasks within the HPE Learning Area that are inclusive of, but not limited to:
1. Implementing effective teaching strategies to engage and challenge students of varying abilities to achieve specific learning outcomes.
2. Fostering a stimulating, encouraging and inclusive classroom environment designed to support student growth.
3. Planning and programming for classes within the Health and Physical Education Learning Area to promote learning and involvement.
4. Assessing the performance of students in accordance with College procedures and where required, maintaining contact with parents regarding the performance and wellbeing of students.
5. Meeting the deadlines set by the Head of Learning Area and College Executive.
Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism whilst supporting the Catholic ethos and values of the College.
A high level of organisational and time management skills are also required for the role.
The successful applicant will also demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the current Western Australian Curriculum and will hold a tertiary qualification for Secondary Education, preferably in Health and Physical Education.
Demonstrated experience within this Learning Area will be viewed favourably.
Qualifications Required
Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in Education, preferably in Health and Physical Education.
2. Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) or equivalent.
Terms of Employment
1. Hold a current registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia.
2. Hold a current Working with Children Check (WWC).
3. Hold, or be working towards completion of, Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic School, Accreditation to Teach Religious Education or Accreditation for Leadership in Catholic Schools.
4. Annually complete Child Protection Procedures and Mandatory Reporting Training.
High Desirable
1. Knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum and WACE courses.
2. An understanding of current educational perspectives.
3. Experience working with high school students.
4. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with students, colleagues, parents/guardians and external partners.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
6. Strong time management and organisational skills.
7. Strong problem solving and critical thinking abilities.
Applicants must have a current registration as a teacher with the Teacher Registration Board of WA (TRBWA) to be eligible for appointment. Information is available from the TRBWA.
