You will report to the National Operations Manager and manage safety, quality, production, and incoming/outgoing freight and the establishment of performance improvement strategies and standard work practices for the Melbourne DC. You will lead and take initiatives to develop strategies & operational practices that will ensure the business meets and exceeds customer expectations. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE: Local DC Management: Manage the slitting and distribution activities of the DC, ensuring effectiveness and efficiency of operation. Measure and monitor performance against established metrics. Ensure all customer order requests are met and that established levels are maintained or exceeded. Ensure world-class (and safe) work practices and procedures are identified and implemented throughout the DC. Drive scrap, waste, and energy reduction in line with Avery Dennison's sustainability goals. Manage inventory movements and inventory accuracy. Drive continuous improvements in productivity and operational effectiveness, service responsiveness, and reliability. Liaise regularly with Supply Chain for all incoming inventory (imports, stock transfers, airfreight). Manage all outgoing freight in line with customer service agreements (local and interstate). Manage outgoing freight utilization and budget (freight out cost per unit). Actively support monthly management of 3PL and freight providers. Process Improvement: Establish a process mindset that embeds the utilization of ELS (i.e. Lean and Six Sigma Tools). Apply concepts such as 5S, Visual Management, Kanban, SMED, VSM, and other improvement tools. Introduce change through processes, programs, and communication strategies that will embed a culture of "Customer First" within the Melbourne DC. Safety Management: Provide and maintain, as far as is reasonably practicable, a safe working environment, safe systems and procedures of work, with plant, equipment, and substances in safe condition. Ensure hazards are reasonably identified and controlled. Provide information, instruction, training, and supervision to ensure that each employee follows appropriate workplace procedures and is safe from injury and risk to health. Promote employee safety as a priority by actively driving compliance with Company safety programs and systems (especially the Safety Management Framework), workplace policies and procedures, laws, and regulations. Monitor, evaluate, investigate, and report OHS performance, including reporting of all injuries, incidents, illnesses, near-misses, hazards, and corrective actions. Continually review the potential and capability of DC staff at their local DC, and ensure the requisite capabilities and skills are in place to drive continual improvement in productivity and process. Through an integrated training system, upgrade and develop talent to ensure a more customer-oriented, and process & productivity improvement focus. Act as a leader to all ANZ DC Managers and Team Leaders in the network to build network performance improvements. Mentor and support the ELS Coordinator to build their capabilities. Ensure alignment with the company's Values and Ethics, Code of Business Conduct, Human Resources Policies, Occupational Health & Safety Policies, and other standards. Qualifications Relevant tertiary qualifications (preferably degree qualified and/or relevant industry recognized training). 10+ years experience leading a team in a manufacturing environment. ELS & EHS experience is required. Willingness to undertake ongoing professional development training. Demonstrated problem-solving ability. Excellent planning & organization skills. Advanced reporting and computer systems skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills (including presentations).
