Culinary Team Member
We are looking for a skilled and passionate Cook to join our culinary team. As a Cook in our partnered facilities, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the nutritional needs of residents are met with delicious and wholesome meals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious meals in accordance with dietary requirements and menu plans, ensuring all standards are met.
- Ensure meals are served at the appropriate temperature and in a timely manner.
- Assist with the serving of meals to residents, respecting their food preferences.
- Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper storage and handling of food.
- Collaborate with dietary staff to develop menus that meet the nutritional needs and preferences of residents.
- Assist the Food and Nutrition Manager in controlling food costs, waste, and ordering.
- Monitor food inventory and communicate with the relevant channels to coordinate ordering of supplies.
- Ensure all Public Health and Ministry of Long-Term Care requirements are met.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including equipment and utensils.
- Assist with special events and catering as required.
Requirements:
- Successful completion and/or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting the requirements of the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act is required.
- Chef/Cook Certification from a recognized community college, preferably Red Seal, is preferred.
- A valid Food Handler's Certificate is required and must be kept up-to-date.
- Experience in a Long-Term Care setting or with seniors is preferred, but institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality cooking experience is accepted.
- A Vulnerable Sector Check within 6 months is required.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care's Long-term care home COVID-19 immunization policy is required.
Essential Skills:
- A sincere interest in people, particularly the elderly, and a genuine sensitivity to their needs are essential.
- The ability to effectively handle the physical aspects of the position, including bending, standing, lifting, working in various temperatures, and handling hands in water, while maintaining a safe working environment, is necessary.
- The ability to multitask and complete required routines within assigned schedules is required.
- Flexibility and adaptability within a team environment are essential.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written in English) are necessary.
