Our teams of researchers lead key internationally competitive research from molecules to medicines, from patient to policy, across a range of therapeutic areas.The Sydney Pharmacy School is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the multi-disciplinary team led by Professor Hak-Kim Chan. The incumbent will be involved in multiple research projects focusing on the preparation of pharmaceutical powders (including drugs and/or bacteriophages) and their aerosol delivery to the lungs.The team are currently working on a US FDA-funded project to develop a laser-based testing platform for generic dry powder inhaler evaluation as well as an ARC Discovery Project aiming to unravel the mechanics of particle deposition at the micro-scale.The incumbent will be based in The Sydney Pharmacy School located on the Camperdown Campus.Your key responsibilities will be to:apply independent research skills under the supervision of senior academic staffconduct research or professional activity contributing to discipline knowledgeuse your expertise in research methodologies, design, and delivery to contribute to the University's standing as a national leader in the disciplineprepare literature and ethics applicationsprepare and contribute to grant applications and submissionsbring and maintain a research profile which meets University expectations and standards – including (as appropriate) publication of book chapters/ peer-reviewed journal articles, producing conference/seminar papers – either independently or as part of a teamcontribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled.About youPHD degree in pharmacy or similar discipline or have equivalent experienceproven experience with powder formulations using various techniques such as spray drying, freeze drying, spray freeze-dryingresearch experience in powder characterisations using laser diffraction, thermal gravimetric analysis, dynamic vapour sorption, dynamic scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopyresearch experience in aerosol performance characterisations using impactors and liquid chromatographyproven experience with biological characterisations involving bacteria and phages such as plaque assays, phage isolation-purification-amplificationa peer-reviewed publication track record that places emphasis on quality publications relative to the opportunity and/or experiencedemonstrated scientific creativity and innovation/discoveryoutstanding interpersonal and communication skills in a team environment.Sponsorship / work rights for AustraliaAustralian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the reasons for the position.Pre-employment checksYour employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University.
