We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive General Manager of People & Culture to drive strategic initiatives and foster a culture of excellence within our high-performing P&C team. This is a unique opportunity for a senior P&C leader to contribute to the operational success of our Transport & Infrastructure business, working across the trans-Tasman region to develop people strategies that support business performance and growth. This role could be based in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane.
In this role, you will be responsible for facilitating the delivery of key People & Culture outcomes across Downer’s largest trans-Tasman business unit - Transport & Infrastructure. You will play a critical role in driving people growth, performance, and engagement in alignment with our tactical plan and Downer’s broader people frameworks. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer you will lead a dedicated team of P&C professionals to deliver strategic HR initiatives that enhance organisational capability and support business success.
Key responsibilities:
Develop people strategies to build trans-Tasman resource capability and engagement, enabling strong operational delivery and supporting business performance.
Provide thought leadership and coaching on Downer’s people frameworks, effective people management, and change practices.
Lead the Transport & Infrastructure People & Culture team, fostering a culture of high performance and collaboration across Downer teams.
Ensure compliance with legislative requirements, managing the delivery of consistent, compliant, and cost-effective HR, IR, and ER services.
Champion collaboration and influence internal and external stakeholders, including unions and industry groups, to achieve optimal outcomes.
Support the wider Downer P&C community by implementing and integrating P&C initiatives and processes into Transport & Infrastructure.
About you:
We are looking for an Executive General Manager of People & Culture with a proven ability to create a compelling vision for business growth and develop clear, strategic plans to achieve ambitious goals. The ideal candidate will bring innovation and sustainability to their strategies, inspire leadership from the front, and possess the following skills and experience:
Extensive experience (10+ years) in senior HR leadership roles, preferably in an industrial environment, with strong expertise in industrial and employee relations.
Demonstrated experience leading change in a multifaceted people environment, with a proven track record of driving sustainable people and organisational performance improvements.
Experience working at a senior leadership level, both internally and with customers.
A strong ability to positively influence the business, achieving strategic growth and development initiatives.
Proven experience providing strategic P&C advice and support to leaders on cultural change, talent development, and coaching.
Successful leadership and management of a P&C team within a Business Partnering model, with a focus on building strong relationships with internal stakeholders.
