Job Description
The Database Engineer will join a team that manages defence databases' security, performance, and compliance, ensuring they are both efficient and aligned with stringent security standards. We work within an ITIL framework for all work-related activities, including change, incident, and problem management, where responsibilities include the following (but not be limited to):
* Database Design and Implementation: Installing, creating, configuring, upgrading, and monitoring databases to ensure optimum performance.
* Performance Monitoring and Optimisation: Regularly monitoring database performance and optimising queries to ensure efficient data retrieval and storage.
* Database Security: Implementing and managing security measures to protect sensitive defence data from unauthorised access and breaches, including configuring firewalls, encryption, and access controls.
* Support for Application Teams: Providing support to application teams for database-related incidents.
* ITIL Framework: Working within an ITIL framework for all work-related activities, including change, incident, and problem management.
Qualifications
Coupled with your education and practical experience, you will demonstrate a proactive approach with the ability to understand the business, identify issues and develop relationships to achieve the company's objectives. You will also have:
* Proven experience administering, configuring and managing large-scale Database environments.
* Experience working with Microsoft Windows Server.
* Experience in High Availability and Disaster Recovery scenarios.
* Experience managing backup and restoration processes.
* Relevant certifications or Professional membership relating to PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL or Oracle Database (desirable).
