Key duties and responsibilities
The Principal Program Officer key responsibilities are:
• Provide leadership and management in the development and implementation of whole of service, program and project initiatives ensuring effective and high quality, innovative and practical responses to strategic priorities identified by government.
• Undertake and present comparative analysis of program data to provide expert advice on contentious and emerging issues and opportunities for new directions, interrogate platforms and systems to identify opportunities for continuous improvement (intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills would be advantageous).
• Co-ordinate place-based design work, including procurement, and implement community based service responses that better meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
• Provide high level analysis, advice and recommendations of innovative approaches to new trends and issues that impact on service delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families.
• Oversee, coordinate and monitor key aspects of major new practice initiatives to ensure the delivery of required outcomes by working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders as required.
• Assist in the management of human, financial and physical resources, including project specific teams ensuring effective governance, a culture of client services and the achievement of outputs required.
• Represent the department with other levels of government and the nongovernment sector, where applicable, to ensure coordinated strategies and policies including contract negotiations and ongoing contract management as required.
• Identify and provide advice on requirements relevant to new initiatives and project activities and, where necessary, coordinate and oversee the provision of these within resource constraints.
• Coordinate the preparation of correspondence, submissions, paper, briefing notes, reports and secretariat work relating to service development and delivery issues
