The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mining Engineer – Short Term to work collaboratively towards delivering high-quality solutions and results at Pembroke Resource’s new autonomous project in the Bowen Basin - the Olive Downs Complex.
Pembroke Resource’s Olive Downs Complex is a greenfield project located 40 kilometres South-east of Moranbah and is due to commence mining operations in early 2023. Thiess has recently been awarded a five-year contract to deliver full-service mining operations, including mine planning overburden removal, drill and blast, load and haul, water management and rehabilitation as well as construction of the mine infrastructure.
About The Role
Working an 8/6 day shift roster and reporting through to the Technical Services Superintendent, the key responsibilities in this role will include:
1. Responsible for delivering the 1-month coal flow and waste schedule.
2. Overseeing the execution of all aspects of the mine planning function
3. Leading a small team of engineers providing coaching, guidance and technical support into the drill and blast and pit design processes.
4. Assessing the technical risk in mine plans and developing mitigation strategies
5. Liaising with production staff to ensure plans are being executed as per design and to schedule.
6. Completing the end-of-month reconciliations and reporting process
7. Assessing opportunities to maximize equipment utilization and productivity.
8. Driving continuous improvement in the Mine Planning team
9. Building and maintaining a strong relationship with the Production team, client and other internal stakeholders

10. Demonstrated commitment to Thiess principles of Integrity, Accountability, Innovation and Delivery.
11. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Mining or Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
12. Minimum 5 years’ operational mining engineering experience (open cut preferred).
13. Experience with MS Office, Vulcan, XPAC or SPRY, Deswik, 3D Dig or similar software
14. Ability to work collaboratively within a small team environment.
15. A commitment to the best practice of health and safety at all times
16. Excellent behavioural, time management, analytical, verbal and written communication skills.
