Job Title: Environmental Ecologist
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Ecologist to join our team in Victoria, Australia. As a Field-based ecology survey work expert, you will lead projects across a wide range of ecological disciplines and clients with opportunities to mentor junior team members.
Your Responsibilities:
* Conduct field-based ecology surveys, including vegetation mapping, ecological monitoring, targeted threatened flora and fauna surveys, and Vegetation Quality Assessments using the DEECA Habitat Hectares method.
* Lead projects across a wide range of ecological disciplines and clients with opportunities to mentor junior team members.
* Evaluate and mitigate ecological impacts for various projects and scales.
* Support internal clients in delivering ecological requirements within multi-disciplinary tenders and projects.
* Work independently or collaboratively with ecologists and professionals in planning, delivery, and management of ecology surveys; analysis and evaluation of results, impact assessments, and design and implementation of successful mitigation strategies.
What We're Looking For:
* Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field, with working knowledge of Victorian and Commonwealth environmental legislation (e.g., EPBC Act, FFG Act, Planning and Environment Act).
* Proficiency in vegetation surveys across various Victorian environments, habitat assessments (VQA accreditation desirable), and GIS tools such as ESRI FieldMaps.
* Strong experience in habitat and protected species surveys, efficient data recording, and a valid Victorian driver's license, with the ability to work outdoors on extended field programs.
* Previous professional consultancy experience in ecology or equivalent NGO/academic background.
* Willingness to undertake fieldwork across Victoria.

Estimated Salary: $80,000 - $120,000 per annum
