Expressions of interests are now open for a VFX Supervisor to join the award-winning team at Rising Sun Pictures in our Adelaide and Brisbane studio.
Position Overview: As the VFX Supervisor at Rising Sun Pictures (RSP), you are part of a core team within our Visual Effects production process.
Your role will revolve around supervising the production department.
As a key member of staff you lead your team by example and are comfortable coaching more junior artists across technical and creative resolutions and work presentation.
Your responsibilities include collaborating to assign artists to shows, defining appropriate inputs and outputs on projects and establishing best practices for the department as-a-whole.
You are a figure head for the discipline of production and for the department within RSP.
You lead by example, always upholding the highest standards and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities: You have developed an ability to not only understand, but to add value to the brief, providing well considered and effective solutions to VFX Supervisors.
Lead your team by example and are comfortable coaching more junior artists across technical and creative resolutions and work presentation.
You are expected to be proactive, solve complex problems, estimate timeframes for your work and that of your team, and raise issues constructively with suggestions for improvement and execution.
You own your work and that of your team members.
You ensure best practices both within your shows and at a department level, are adhered to, setting the standards for your shows and consistently enforcing them.
You are able to delegate appropriately to make sure that your team's work continues with as few bottlenecks as possible.
This may require the identification of requirements for sequence leads, changes in staffing levels, quantities or timings, schedule changes, show specific or Company-wide tool building etc.
You are expected to maintain a thorough understanding of your team's assignments, abilities and workload and to work closely with the department Coordinator and Manager to ensure the right people are assigned to appropriate tasks.
You will work closely with your teams to identify areas for individual artist improvement and assist in their development through one on one contact, appropriate assignments and delegating responsibility for training to others in your team where necessary.
You maintain a world class standard of technical compositing quality and influence your teams to do the same.
Where a show requires flexibility in quality, you are able to modify it appropriately and instruct your team to do the same.
You understand the impact of your work both upstream and downstream of your department, and communicate well with supervision, production, CG supervisors and leads to make sure the workflow is as smooth as possible.
You maintain your expertise by keeping up with new technology, industry trends and approaches.
Report creative client, resourcing and quality concerns to the Head of Production | Executive Producer.
Contribute to, own, develop and present show strategies to the Head of Production | Executive Producer.
Lead Department Supervisors to achieve project outcomes against agreed show strategies.
Negotiate your show needs with fellow Supervisors when conflict arises.
As the principal point of contact between Client and Company you have the primary responsibility for the following: Creatively engaging with the Client, providing vision where required.
Understanding the Client's creative and financial requirements.
Communicate Client priorities to the VFX Producer and Production teams.
Timely and accurate translation of the Client's creative, organisational and financial requirements to the Company through interaction with the Production team and Executive team.
Manage the Client's expectations, to create a positive outcome for the Client and the Company.
Be across all show assets, shots and their progress, maintaining an ongoing view of project health.
Report any show concerns with a strategy on how to mitigate risks.
Communicate clearly with fellow VFX Supervisors, CG Supervisors, 2D Supervisors and Department Supervisors to ensure work is done in a timely manner.
In concert with the Department Supervisors and Production teams, ensure that project commitments are met.
Maintain a positive and professional face to the Client of the Company.
Take a pragmatic approach when presenting work in progress to the Client, in the interest of achieving the Company's operational and financial goals.
Provide a positive and professional face to the Company of the Client and their wishes.
Act in the best interests of the Company, with the VFX Producer, if conflicted between the needs of the Company and those of the Client.
Deliver these activities while working within the Company's financial and operational constraints.
Production Responsibilities: Provide creative vision for projects; in alignment with the VFX Producer.
Provide clear strategic plans for how to deliver work: execution methodologies, breakdowns and alternatives.
Provide timely creative feedback.
Provide clear briefs to artists.
Work with Head of Departments, CG Supervisors and 2D Supervisors to establish a strong execution methodology.
Clearly define the execution method to all production staff, and continue to provide clarity as required.
Maintain production management principles, per Head of Production | Executive Producer.
Development and maintaining professional relationships: Establish and develop professional relationships with studio executives, VFX producers, VFX supervisors and other studio and industry representatives.
This may also involve interstate and overseas travel from time to time to assist with relationship building, project management and reinforcing the RSP brand.
Mentorship & Leadership: Lead by example, be accountable and hold others to account.
Demand timeliness of yourself and expect timeliness of others.
Manage direct reports, if applicable, and complete annual performance reviews and performance feedback for staff as required.
Engage in improvements to the production process and the Company in general.
Collaborate to improve the Company as a whole.
If required, able to encompass all the duties of a CG Supervisor, or Head of Department.
Sales: In concert with the Business Development Manager, provide assistance and/or undertake timely bids.
This may include sourcing of new leads or future projects and feasibility and project risk assessment including assessment of projects in accordance with Company margin ambitions.
With the Business Development Manager, define and optimise the handover process between Sales and Production to ensure accurate transition of bids into production.
This may include project plans, execution methodology and breakdowns.
On Set / On Location Responsibilities: Possess a thorough working knowledge of relevant roles and responsibilities for on-set crew on location when shooting.
Communicate and share shooting schedules to ensure the Company is kept informed, flagging any potential unexpected changes, or "known unknowns".
Provide regular updates and guidance on shooting outcomes to inform briefs.
Negotiate with the Client on the fly, when shooting, to ensure that the best result is achieved in post with minimal exposure to RSP for unforeseen costs.
