Primary objective This position is responsible for provision of daily accurate information in relation to prisoner movements and discharges to ensure the effective management of prisoners, including the calculation of sentence periods for individual prisoners in accordance with the Sentencing Act under supervision of custodial officers. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Under supervision update and maintain daily accurate and effective information in relation to prisoner movements, transfers and discharges. 2. Update and maintain accurate statistics on prisoner numbers on a daily basis for the provision of information to Correctional Management. 3. Calculate all sentence periods for individual prisoners in accordance with the Sentencing Act to ensure all offenders serve the periods intended by the sentencing authorities. 4. Provide other general administrative support and assistance as directed by Management. 5. Process and payment of authorised invoices and travel, when required, in a timely manner through the NTG Pay System or the Expense 8 (credit card system) ensuring compliance with relevant legislative and agency policies and procedures. 6. Liaise with departmental staff and other interested stakeholders to ensure the repatriation of prisoners is conducted in accordance with agency directives and accurate information is recorded in Integrated Offender Management System (IOMS) and other recording systems. 7. Under supervision manage all aspects pertaining to prisoner records; monitor control, creation and access, observing current registration protocols, and provide advice on the application of contemporary records management including archiving and secondary storage. Selection criteria Essential 1. Demonstrated high standard of written and oral communication skills with the ability to work autonomously, manage time effectively, prioritise work-loads and approach issues in an innovative way. 2. Demonstrated ability to collate records and report information in a timely manner for informed decision making. 3. Knowledge and understanding of current government legislation relevant to the calculation of sentences for individual prisoners. 4. Demonstrated ability in the use of Integrated Offender Management System (IOMS) or other offender specific management database systems, or the ability to acquire knowledge of these systems. 5. Experience in records management practices with the ability to gain an understanding of records management policies and procedures. 6. Knowledge of computer, electronic media, and software package applications including MS Office word processing, spreadsheets and databases. 7. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures. Desirable 1. Knowledge and understanding of custodial operations in the Northern Territory and understanding of the requirements and limitations of working within a complex secure environment.
