About the role This permanent full-time position forms a key component of the Progress Rail Service team.
You will be engaged to support with design, supply, integration, and safety assurance of the CBTC system onboard BHP's fleet of SD70 ACe locomotives.
The role is part of a locomotive fleet upgrade in Port Hedland with employees working a day roster of 8 days on 6 off and 7 nights on and 7 off fly out roster from Perth.
** Please note, due to the short turnaround, all of our employees need to be based in WA. This is a great entry-level opportunity for somebody wanting to break into the FIFO industry for the first time.
Job tasks and responsibilities Ability to read, comprehend, and apply engineering drawings.High level communications and interpersonal skills.High level problem-solving skills and the ability to work as part of a team.Ability and willingness to further their knowledge and skills with additional training.High level record keeping.Knowledge and understanding of Stick and MIG process welding.Undertake preventative maintenance and/or repairs to all rolling stock, wagons, plant, and facilities as required.Provide recommendations to management on methods and procedures with a view to more efficient operations of the facility and maintainability of rolling stock.Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on locomotives and equipment and ensure that all tasks are performed in accordance with relevant maintenance documentation.Provide recommendations to management on methods and procedures to improve the service and product we offer our clients.Skills and experience Trade Certificate in Boilermaking / Welding.Previous experience on locomotives freight maintenance or service activities would be desirable.Previous experience within a heavy maintenance environment.Certified competency as a forklift operator or overhead crane driver would be advantageous but not essential.Ability to work unsupervised and be a hands-on team player.Proven ability to organise and prioritise tasks, be flexible and resourceful, proactive and professional in manner with a high degree of initiative and strong communication skills.Why work for us?
