BADAC was established in 1979 by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in the Ballarat district. Our vision is to be the strongest voice and presence in the Ballarat District, supporting and respecting our people, enhancing our community, growing our culture, and honouring our heritage.
We are proud of the contribution and support we have provided the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community over the past 40 years. With changes at Government level to how organisations like this are empowered to support their communities, BADAC is entering the next natural stage in its evolution.
The Role
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) role will see you play a key part in the ongoing growth and success of the Ballarat and District Aboriginal Cooperative.
You will leverage your significant experience to provide strategic and operational oversight of finance functions, including financial planning, risk management, record-keeping, and reporting.
As a key member of the executive team, you will partner with the CEO and other senior leaders to drive strategic decisions, optimise financial performance, and ensure the company's financial health and sustainability.
In addition, this role will see you provide leadership across portfolio areas including Maintenance, Operations and IT, Public Relations, Corporate Development, Financial Services, and Project teams (as required).
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage financial functions for the Ballarat & District Aboriginal Cooperative, including all budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
* Develop and mentor the finance team to ensure a high level of performance and standard of professional practice.
* Support financial corporate governance by ensuring robust financial policy, procedure, and practice(s).
* Provide strategic guidance and reporting to the CEO, executive team, and Board of Directors.
* Oversee cash flow, investments, and financial risk management to safeguard the company's assets.
* Analyse financial performance for key projects and program areas, including provision of forecasting, reporting, and acquittals.
Skills and Experience
* Qualification in Commerce and Accounting, and CA or CPA.
* Significant relevant experience in a similar NFP role, demonstrating excellent commercial acumen.
* Excellent analytical skills, sound problem solving, creative & independent thinking, and the ability to guide the long-term success of the organisation.
* Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written skills that include the ability to inspire and motivate others within the team.
* Demonstrated ability to balance current financial operational requirements, long-term strategic business goals, and needs of the local Aboriginal community.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively within the Aboriginal community, including demonstrated knowledge & understanding of Aboriginal culture and sound knowledge of the challenges and issues facing the local Aboriginal community.
