What you'll be doing
This role is required to work independently and within the scope of practice of an advanced practice nurse. This position liaises with multiple departments by providing education, resources and support across the hospital and community to ensure patients therapy is coordinated across the spectrum of care. Procedures for apomorphine and Duodopa are developed and updated to provide governance across NSLHD.
The role provides advanced assessment of people with complex Parkinson’s disease to determine the appropriate device for their needs. This assessment extends to the initiation and titration of the appropriate therapy as inpatients. Patients and carers are educated by the role to care for their device independently. The role then provides ongoing care, assessment, education, supervision assistance to navigate the health care system as their disease progresses and their health care needs change.
The purpose of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) position is to provide senior nursing clinical leadership in the development of specialist clinical practice and service delivery within a nursing unit, team or service.
The CNS employs advanced clinical skills and exercises extended autonomy of decision making working closely with managers and other senior clinicians.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
1. Registered Nurse - Division 1 with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years’ experience working in the clinical area of their specified post-graduate qualification, or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate
2. Current Neurology Nursing experience, with an interest in Parkinsons Disease.
3. Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
4. Current clinical knowledge and clinical problem solving ability.
5. A commitment to excellence in nursing practice and continuing professional development.
