This role is based at Perisher, the largest ski resort in the Southern Hemisphere, located in the beautiful Snowy Mountains region of South-Eastern NSW and just a two-hour drive from Canberra and the Far South Coast. Perisher is part of Vail Resorts who own and operate ski areas including iconic resorts such as Perisher, Falls Creek and Hotham in Australia as well as Park City, Beaver Creek, Whistler Blackcomb and Vail in North America.

The Skitube Alpine Railway is a vital part of our operations and is a rack/cog railway of Swiss design providing all-weather access to the resort, travelling from Bullocks Flat to Perisher Valley and Blue Cow Mountain. It has one of the longest underground train tunnels in Australia and travels as deep as 550m underground.
Reporting to the Skitube Maintenance Manager, as a Fitter with the Skitube team, you will help ensure the Skitube is operating safely and efficiently by carrying out relevant inspections and performing maintenance, including welding and fitting duties, on rolling stock and other railway infrastructure. Previous experience in a railway environment will be highly regarded.
Fitters are employed under the Perisher Trades Enterprise Agreement 2023 where remuneration is commensurate with experience and qualifications. The base rate of pay will range from $40.68 to $49.57 per hour depending on your experience and qualifications.
In a typical day in this role, you might:
* Carry out scheduled inspections and maintenance on rolling stock and other railway infrastructure in a thorough and diligent manner, in accordance with the requirements of the Safety and Environmental Management System.
* Carry out general fabrication, new construction, modifications and/or conversions to rolling stock, infrastructure, plant and other equipment.
* Assist in the development and implementation of preventative maintenance programs.
* Liaise with the Mechanical Supervisor to ensure appropriate stores and parts required for tasks are kept on hand.
To be considered for this role, you should have:
* Trade Certificate - Mechanical Fitter
* Welding experience (desirable)
* A high level of attention to problem solving ability
