ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Heritage Consultant/Archaeologist with specialism in Aboriginal Cultural Heritage to join the team and work on a range of exciting projects. This is a fixed-term contract to cover parental leave (approximately 9 months) commencing in August 2025, and we are open to full time and part time arrangements. There is potential for the position to be extended. The role focuses on the preparation of archaeological and heritage assessments, undertaking field survey, archaeological excavation, research, report writing and project management. The position offers an excellent opportunity to be part of one of the best multi-disciplinary consultancies and develop technical and professional skills in a supportive team environment. We work closely across all ELA offices nationwide meaning close collaboration, and support from our heritage teams in Newcastle, Melbourne and Perth. ABOUT YOU To be successful you will have: A bachelor’s degree or higher in Archaeology involving studies in Australian archaeology (preferably from an Australian university) Practical, working knowledge and understanding of the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974 is essential Project management experience Confidence in working with clients and regulators Experience in managing archaeological survey, field assessment and excavation Previous consulting experience (4 years as a guide) Experience in leading the preparation of Aboriginal Due Diligence Reports, Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessment Reports and other related documents Demonstrated experience in working with Aboriginal people including community consultation and strong knowledge of formal consultation processes Sound communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others both internally and externally Comprehensive writing and time management skills Willingness to travel and work in remote locations for field projects when required Comfortable working in all weather conditions, and sometimes in remote areas A baseline level of physical fitness and agility that will enable your participation in field work in a variety of climates and terrains And it would be great if you also had: Exposure to GIS applications and/or a demonstrated understanding of spatial data analysis and applications. A manual driver licence and 4WD experience.
