Lithgow City Council has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and suitably qualified or experienced applicant to fill the position of Ranger (6 month Term Contract) within the Environmental Services department of Council.Reporting to the Team Leader Environment, you will be responsible for providing the local community with effective regulatory services that meet statutory obligations such as animal control, parking patrols, stock control, local law enforcement, and general Ranger duties within the Lithgow Local Government Area. The position may also be responsible for duties relating to environmental protection and planning compliance when required.The ideal candidate has a strong work ethic, is able to work both autonomously and as part of a team, and has a strong customer focus whilst promoting council values.The successful applicant will be required to perform on-call duties as a part of this role.More specifically, your duties will include:Companion animal control including patrols, seizing of unrestrained animals, issuing fines, and providing community education in relation to companion animals.Local Law Enforcement – investigate and respond appropriately to regulatory matters in accordance with relevant legislation, including but not limited to Local Government Act 1993, Companion Animals Act 1998, Impounding Act 1993, Road Rules 2014, Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997; Rural Fires Act 1997.Parking patrols – conduct foot and vehicle-based enforcement operations within the Lithgow Local Government Area.Stock control.Investigate complaints and issue infringements or cautions as per relevant legislation.Impounding vehicles and arranging sale or return as necessary.General patrols and inspections to monitor compliance with relevant Acts and Regulations having regard to authority delegated to the position.Investigate overgrown vegetation issues and recommend action.Attend court to give evidence in support of any prosecutions on behalf of Council when required.About youThe successful candidate will meet the following criteria:Knowledge and understanding of relevant sections of the Local Government Act 1993; Companion Animals Act 1998; Impounding Act 1993; Road Rules 2014; Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997; Road Transport Act 2013; Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979; Rural Fires Act 1997 and other legislation relevant to the position.Previous experience working as a Ranger or in a law enforcement role.Previous experience in customer service and dealing with difficult customers.Previous experience in animal control.Current Class C Drivers Licence.Demonstrated commitment to honesty and integrity.Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of Work Health and Safety.In addition, an ideal candidate would have experience in:Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) or equivalent.Certificate IV in Government Investigations (Regulatory Compliance) or equivalent.Certificate of Achievement in the Self-Enforcing Infringement Notice Scheme.Experience in the investigation of environmental offences.Experience driving a manual vehicle.Dangerous dog handling experience and/or qualifications.Salary and BenefitsIf you are looking for a change of lifestyle, a new adventure, or to take the next step in your career, this is the role for you.Between $1,201.42 and $1,320.12 per week, commensurate with your skills, qualifications, and experience.Temporary 6 month Term Contract, Full-time, 38 hours per week.On-call allowance when performing on-call duties.Willingness to work overtime on weekends and after-hours as required; weekend penalties additional.Ongoing learning and development opportunities.Work/Life balance with a rostered day off every 2nd week.APPLICATIONS CLOSE ON Tuesday 19 November at 4pm AEST.Please note: To be considered for this position, candidates must address all selection criteria.
