The Role
The purpose of this role is to the plan and implement strategic projects aimed at promoting efficiency in Council's waste operations, increasing customer satisfaction, and meeting resource recovery targets. We have an opportunity for a committed individual to oversee the delivery of projects and programs that will help drive waste minimisation and circularity in Waverley.
* Design, implement and evaluate initiatives aimed at improving Council’s kerbside services.
* Deliver and monitor programs for waste avoidance, reuse and recycling.
* Update Council’s policies for resource recovery and waste management ensuring alignment with the waste strategy.
* Prepare waste budgets, reports and submissions.
* Collaborate internally to monitor, analyse and report on Council's performance toward achieving its resource recovery targets.
* Engage and coordinate consultants carrying out waste-related audits, investigations as well as service and financial modelling.
* Coordinate and assist in the development of submissions seeking external grant funding, partnerships with regional groups and awards that recognize excellence in Waverley.
* Undertake additional duties as directed by the Manager Waste Operations & Engagement and Executive Manager Waste, Cleansing & Fleet which are consistent with the skills and competencies related to this role.
About You
* Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (e.g. project management, environmental science/management, and other related disciplines).
* Sound understanding of current environmental and/or waste management issues relevant to local government.
* Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
* Previous experience in the environmental field including development of projects from concept to implementation as well as measurement and evaluation of projects.
* Demonstrated experience with writing successful grant applications and/or technical reports.
* Previous experience in the waste management industry and/or environmental consultancy is desirable.
