The Biorisk Management Group at the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) supports regulatory compliance, biosafety implementation, efficacy of inactivation studies, and biocontainment microbiology. As a key member of the team, you will utilize your knowledge of various biorisk and safety regulations and standards to participate in auditing and inspection activities for the Facility.
Job Description
We are seeking an individual with suitable scientific and regulatory experience to join our Biorisk Management Group (BMG). The successful candidate will have a relevant biological science background and support various BMG functions, including:
* Regulatory compliance
* Biosafety implementation
* Inactivation studies
* Biocontainment microbiology
Experience in high and maximum containment facilities (PC3 and PC4) will be highly valued. This role involves laboratory-based research, regulatory compliance, and oversight. You will work with diverse pathogens and contribute to research on decontamination methods and inactivation efficacy.
Responsibilities
* Undertake biorisk focused research activities, including inactivation qualification, disinfectant efficacy, and surface agent survivability
* Maintain and contribute to ACDP's register of validated inactivation methods
* Assist in manuscript preparation for publication on inactivation, decontamination, and disinfectant studies, and present findings at national and international conferences
* Develop innovative experimental methods, equipment, software, or concepts to support ongoing research
* Supervise and train less experienced staff and affiliates at PC3 and PC4 levels
* Support the Biorisk Management Officer in compliance activities, including facility audits, import permit applications, biological material transfer approvals, and IBC submissions
Requirements
* Relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience in Biological Sciences
* Demonstrated experience in Virology and Tissue Culture with a solid understanding of Risk Grouping of microorganisms and the risk control measures employed for safe working
* Proficient awareness and knowledge of Australian standards for microbiological laboratories, regulations for work with Goods Subject to Biosecurity Control and guidelines relating to dealings with Genetically Modified Organisms and standards for handling Security Sensitive Biological Agents
* Proven skills in experimental design, data collection, analysis, communication, and presentation of research data
* Confidence to exert influence in support of the biological security and safety culture at ACDP
