Job Title: Legal Counsel - Construction
We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join our Stockland Group Legal team, working across a diverse scope of work. As part of this role, you will collaborate with stakeholders across various areas within the Stockland business.
About the Role
* Assist lawyers in the team and contribute to Group Financial performance by managing legal expenditure effectively and providing specialist legal advice and drafting legal documentation.
* Review contract departures from contractors and consultants for various disciplines, such as construction, engineering, and design services for development projects.
* Drive contract negotiations with contractors and consultants to assist Project and Development Managers in meeting Stockland's governance standards.
* Support Project and Development Managers on developing mitigation strategies for contractual terms outside Stockland's risk profile.
* Draft, review, and/or finalize construction and other procurement contracts, including consultancy and service agreements for major projects.
* Provide contractual support during the construction phase of projects, including dispute resolution with external stakeholders.
* Undertake due diligence of construction and development contracts in asset acquisition and capital partnering transactions.
* Provide assistance to other members of Group Legal.
About You
* Appropriate tertiary qualifications.
* Hold a valid practice certificate permitting practice in New South Wales or Queensland.
* 5+ years PQE.
* Sound technical understanding of construction law (front or back end), Australian Standards Contracts, or bespoke contracts and major government or private infrastructure contracting demonstrated through previous experience in-house or in a quality law firm.
* Commercially minded and solutions-driven.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, including good negotiation skills.
* Ability to establish credibility and build rapport quickly.
* Self-motivated with an ability to work well as a team member.
* Attention to detail and accuracy.
* Ability to prioritize tasks and manage expectations.
* High levels of integrity.
