Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Purchasing Manager to lead the Wallis Drilling purchasing & stores team, at our Midvale head office. This role will manage and facilitate the procurement strategy, inventory management, sourcing and supplier relations.
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and people management skills, a problem-solving mindset with a solid background in purchasing.
Key Responsibilities:
* Vendor Management: Supplier optimisation and relationship building including implementing and optimising end-to-end procurement processes, including freight and other logistical services, to drive cost improvements and performance.
* Purchasing: Facilitate and deliver the end-to-end procurement process, from sourcing and negotiation to order fulfillment. Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction. Review and negotiate new vendor agreements.
* Cost Control & Analysis: Maintain a focus to meet cost control, quality and delivery requirements. Proactively identify cost-saving opportunities and negotiate supply contracts with vendors. Review vendor pricing, verify, analyse and negotiate to support business operations.
* Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor and develop a team of purchasing & store personnel, fostering a positive and collaborative environment.
* Inventory Optimization & Analysis: Manage our inventory strategy to optimise stock levels, managing re-orders and minimise stockouts, excess stock levels and slow/dead stock. Includes rolling stocktakes across all sites.
Key Requirements and desirable skills:
* Proven experience in procurement and purchasing roles with exposure to manufacturing and mining services businesses.
* Strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage supplier and stakeholder relationships effectively.
* Demonstrated ability to lead, coach and develop a team in a time sensitive environment.
* Are flexible and creative – able to demonstrate the ability to achieve results in challenging, time sensitive environments.
* A relevant qualification in procurement, or a related field (preferred). Proficient in Microsoft Suite and ideally, experience in PRONTO.
