Summary of the Process Development Scientist role
Our Process Development Scientists support a wide range of clients, developing conjugated biologics, all the way from discovery to clinic. This is one of the fastest growing modalities in biologics and provides an excellent opportunity for experienced Process Development Scientists to make a move into the field or for those with experience to join Sterling at a time of significant growth and opportunity.
The position is laboratory based and you will spend 80% of your time in the laboratory and 20% in the office. Although the ideal candidate will bring a range of existing and transferable skills, additional support and training will be provided to upskill the successful candidate.
You will work in a fast paced, project centric environment and will have direct client contact. Our ideal candidate would be someone who enjoys rising to new challenges and who holds a positive can-do attitude.

Your responsibilities
* Developing 'phase-fit' processes and purification streams for the manufacture of bioconjugates, including cytotoxins, chelators, protein degraders and oligonucleotides.
* Scaling processes to provide suitable materials for pre-clinical studies and clinical trials.
* Characterising manufactured antibody and protein conjugates using HPLC and mass spectrometry.
* Presenting data to clients and internal scientific teams.
* Keeping accurate records and document experimental results in laboratory notebooks.
* Planning your own work to meet project objectives in a timely manner.
* Taking part in laboratory housekeeping and contributing to general maintenance of laboratory equipment.
* Performing tasks accurately following protocols (standard operating procedures (SOPs) and risk assessments).

Requirements for the role
* Minimum BSc in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Natural Sciences, Chemistry or related Science discipline.
* Significant industrial experience in a relevant discipline / role.
* Experience working within a regulated environment and knowledge of the requirements for biologics development and manufacture for clinical trial use.
* Significant and relevant experience in at least one of the following areas is essential:
o Protein conjugation / modification.
o Protein downstream purification – chromatography and TFF.
o Protein physicochemical analysis – specifically HPLC and Mass Spectrometry.
* Must be a team player with proven experience of working within a high performing team.
* Scientific mindset with problem solving skills and have the drive to see issues to a successful resolution.
* Excellent communication skills, organisational skills and with a good eye for detail.
