Mars Recruitment is proudly partnering with a leading fin-tech provider in Australia to find an experienced Legal Counsel to join the business. Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel, you will be part of a high-performing team providing legal and compliance support across business units. Your work will span various areas, with a strong focus on consumer credit and financial services regulation, corporate governance, privacy, dispute resolution, and AML/CTF compliance.
Key Responsibilities:Provide expert legal and compliance guidance to different business units, including responding to ad-hoc queries, drafting policies and procedures, preparing responses to complaints and disputes, and reviewing promotional and marketing materials.Advise on the legal and regulatory implications of new products, services, and features.Offer practical, compliance-focused solutions that enhance the customer experience.Draft and negotiate agreements with loan referral partners, funders, commercial partners, and service providers. Develop and refine standard contract templates for both consumer and commercial borrowers (regulated and unregulated).Support the General Counsel and Company Secretary in governance matters and assist in preparing reports for senior management and stakeholders.Ensure the business meets its legal and regulatory obligations, including conducting investigations into potential compliance incidents.Deliver engaging compliance training sessions for business teams.Stay ahead of legal and regulatory developments, assessing their impact and helping the business prepare for industry changes.Key Requirements:Tertiary qualifications in law and admission to practice in NSW or another Australian jurisdiction.2-8 years' post-qualification experience, ideally within Financial Services.Strong expertise in financial services law, including the Corporations Act, Consumer Credit, banking and finance regulations.Proven ability to provide technical legal advice across a range of regulatory matters.A strong understanding of the commercial and legal challenges in the sector.A proactive mindset with a strong focus on delivering excellent stakeholder experiences.Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work.Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.Ability to work both independently and within a team-oriented environment.Seniority LevelMid-Senior level
