Selection Criteria
SC1 Knowledge, ability and experience as a speech pathologist to deliver a comprehensive Speech Pathology service to children in a primary school setting.
SC2 Participate in and contribute to a collaborative team environment, developing supportive professional working relations with staff, students, parents and carers and providing advice and guidance to all involved.
SC3 Demonstrate excellent communications and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult with and advise other professionals in providing services to students with additional needs.
SC4 Demonstrated ability to design and deliver a comprehensive Speech Therapy support and intervention program in a school with implementation supported by teachers, ED staff, parents and relevant professionals. To provide specialist advice on appropriate intervention strategies in order to meet student needs.
SC5 Demonstrated experience and capability to plan, implement and support adjustments for students identified for the Disability Inclusion Model, including developing support plans for Disability Inclusion profile meetings.
Role
Attendance for this position will be three days per week 8:30 - 4:30pm.
Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions. Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations.
Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal. Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school. Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.
Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Responsibilities
Regularly consult with teachers and parents in relation to the progress of students.
Provide written and verbal assessment and recommendations to teachers and parents where appropriate.
Work in consultation with teaching teams to develop relevant evidence based goals for students to inform IEP's and other support plans.
Provide professional development to staff of the school and the external community as requested/appropriate.
Meet regularly with the team and other school staff in structured meetings regarding ongoing development and strategic planning of service provision to students, staff, parents and community agencies.
Keep accurate and relevant file notes for individual students and perform administrative duties.
Understanding of the Disability Inclusion Model and the roles and responsibilities associated with support and implementing such programs in a primary school setting.

Goonawarra Primary School in Sunbury was established in 1987 to service the Goonawarra and Rolling Meadows Estates.
The 2024 enrolment of 352 students is accommodated in 16 classes. The staff comprises of 2 at Principal Class level, 25 teachers and 19 Education Support Staff.
The school is set on four hectares of grassed open space with three large adventure playground areas and attractive gardens and outside facilities.
The architecturally designed original school building, which is 37 years old, has many unique features. This building is complemented by the newly refurbished Administration Building which contains 4 modern classrooms and learning spaces and BER construction which contains six classrooms. In addition to the classrooms, there is a gymnasium, computer lab available to all students, Visual and Performing Arts venues, a Science and Technology room and a spacious, well-equipped, child-friendly library.
All classrooms have their own interactive whiteboard and have access to notepads and iPads.
The school has a strong commitment to providing a curriculum which is both supportive of the needs of individual students and which challenges them to achieve their best.
The school is committed to strengthening student achievement across all curriculum areas with a major focus of the Strategic Plan being English and Numeracy.
