Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace Structure Design)Astro Aero Pty Ltd (AA) is based in Hervey Bay, Queensland Australia. AA was established to design, type certify and manufacture a new turboprop aircraft for the general aviation market.The CandidateTo be successful in this role, you are expected to be a highly organised self-starter with demonstrated experience in performing mechanical engineering design activities. Ideally you have experience through the complete aircraft development life cycle including regulatory compliance and certification. Experience with GA aircraft development would be highly regarded. Candidates are expected to be creative, forward thinking, self-motivated, with the ability to work in a team of like-minded development engineers.Responsibilities of the PositionThe successful candidate will be responsible to:Perform aircraft mechanical systems technical design and structural analysis - under general direction of the Structures Team Lead.The successful candidate will ideally be able to perform the following technical tasks:CAD design of aircraft systems, components, assemblies, installations, test fixtures or tooling.3D Modelling and drawing creation using CATIA V5.Utilize company PLM systems.Geometric tolerance and dimensioning.Evaluate mechanical systems design and associated support structures for structural integrity.Perform mechanical systems structural definition, validation and compliance activities.Structural assessment of aircraft mechanical systems, components, assemblies, installations, test fixtures or tooling.Propose, plan and document mechanical systems structural substantiation data and means of compliance.Follow configuration management and product life cycle management processes.Check and/or approve design, structural analysis and test engineering artefacts.Prepare and present project progress and technical status for design reviews.Coordinate with production engineering to agree/clarify manufacturing methods and requirements.Preparation of technical requirement documents for the development of aircraft mechanical systems.The candidate must be able to demonstrate the following key attributes:A tertiary qualification in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a relevant discipline.A minimum of 5 years working experience as a mechanical engineer.Be flexible, innovative and able to work to tight deadlines with small business environment and in multicultural teams.Physical Requirements and Work EnvironmentMostly collaborative open office environments, occasional shop floor involvement.Substantial amounts of computer work, CAD.Regulated industry with strict adherence to procedures.Typical 8 hour days.Willingness to become hands on when needed and share design intent to aid collaboration between engineering and manufacturing.Occasional flexibility required by staying late or arriving early to meet scheduled business deadlines.What you will get in returnA rare opportunity to contribute to the development of a new aircraft design.You will be working within a small dedicated group of Engineers and Artisans.There is the opportunity to experience a rewarding work-life balance lifestyle when working in the beautiful Fraser Coast region of SE Queensland.How to lodge an applicationIf you are interested in this position, please e-mail your resume to us at (emailprotected).
