Actuarial Analyst (Home Pricing and Underwriting)

Ways of working
This role can be based either at our Sunshine Coast headquarters or in Fortitude Valley, with a hybrid work model that includes in-office presence from Tuesday to Thursday at your chosen location.
Key priorities
1. Support the Actuarial function and company on insurance pricing and underwriting decisions through robust, accurate and timely data driven analysis.
2. Evaluate portfolio composition, trends, and deviations from expectations over time.
3. Compile and preprocess data for analysis, modelling and technical review of predictive claims models.
4. Present insights and recommend adjustments to rates to management based on model outcomes.
5. Implementing changes to pricing and underwriting systems.
6. Design, refine, and provide necessary reports for various business functions.
7. Collaborate with business units to ensure timely delivery of service levels for individual client underwriting referrals.
8. Contribute to the improvement of systems, including pricing and underwriting platforms, as well as overarching sales and policy systems.
About you
9. A Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science or a related field.
10. Progressing through actuarial examinations viewed favourably.
11. Experience in an actuarial role (2+ years is a general indicator).
12. Strong knowledge of general insurance concepts.
13. Analytical mindset.
14. Strong understanding of sources of insurance data, its limitations and common uses.
15. Demonstrate efficient and independent working with very large data sets.
16. Pricing experience is highly advantageous.
17. Experience in building predictive models viewed favourably (e.g. GLM, machine learning).
18. Proficiency in languages such as Python, R, SQL, SAS.
19. Ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
20. Meticulous attention to detail.
21. Strong problem-solving abilities.
22. Effective communication skills.
