About the role
We are currently recruiting a Senior Engineer – Network Planning to join our Southern Distribution Planning team. This role can be based anywhere within the Southern Planning Footprint, which includes all of our Central, Murray, Riverina Slopes, South Eastern and Central Tablelands Area’s of Essential Energy’s network.
The Senior Engineer – Network Planning is responsible for taking a leadership role in managing the detailed
research and network analysis that drives the development of a valuable and prudent forward works
pipeline and the optimisation of the existing energy network assets and their operation.
The Senior Engineer will take a lead role in the review of strategic and technical evaluations and the
implementation of agreed asset management plans across a range of technical functions that align to Asset
Management strategies and contribute to achieving the Asset Management objectives.
You will have the opportunity to collaborate with and support our other Senior Engineering specialists and Network Planners, to solve emerging and traditional network issues, implement new technologies, provide leadership and support to develop real world solutions for the network and our customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Carrying out network modelling (SINCAL) and produce the relevant studies, reports, constraint identification and settings for network protection, voltage, thermal, hosting capacity and reliability
Conduct the analysis for, and produce Strategic Network Area Plans (SNAPs) and Distribution Area Planning Strategy’s (DAPS)
Responsible for the preparation, planning and approval of network investments
Undertake the identification, review and validation of complex network constraints and determine appropriate network and non-network investment options that provide value to both Essential Energy and our customers
Provide high quality technical, analytical advice and expertise to customers and stakeholders, ensuring advice contributes to the overall success of Essential Energy and addresses network challenges
Responsible for the leading the provision of engineering and planning services in the identification, research and development of network and business unit improvements which align with business strategies and promote more effective and efficient asset management decisions
Undertake the strategic planning and approval of network investments and agreed asset management plans ensuring the success of asset management function
Provide advanced technical, analytical and professional engineering expertise to support customers and stakeholders, ensuring advice contributes to the overall success of the business and addresses network challenges
Address the planning requirements of the Energy Network to a professional standard through the utilisation of research principles and methods and the application of advanced engineering and theoretical knowledge associated with asset management planning activities
Identify, collate and present credible network data to prepare high level business case documents and technical models with recommendations for implementation through structured analysis
About You
You will bring extensive professional experience in a similar engineering role within the Energy/Electrical and/or Utilities industry, along with a thorough understanding of current network design philosophies, procedures, and statutory requirements. Your advanced analytical and engineering skills will enable you to manage activities and identify solutions to engineering issues in the Energy Network environment.
You will apply a comprehensive body of knowledge related to the structure, function, and design of electricity sub-transmission and distribution systems. Additionally, you will possess strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, be flexible, self-motivated, well-organized, and capable of handling a complex workload.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) or equivalent to satisfy graduate membership to the Institution of Engineers Australia
Drivers Licence
